This is an award jacket made by TM ATHLETICS around the 1980s. In Japan they are called stadium jumpers, but in America they are called Varsity/Lettermans. The custom of wearing patches (letters) is said to have begun at Harvard University, and is still awarded to athletes with outstanding grades and is used at strong schools. The muted red color creates a nice atmosphere, and the retro shawl collar design and straight silhouette without ribbing at the hem make this a rare item. The body is made of Melton wool, which becomes soft and supple over time and has just the right thickness, making it a highly insulating and functional piece.
